The Nicci French series is good, I've read the first three or four of them. "Sunday" is the 7th and last book in the series though!

You should be able to follow the mystery itself, but there is a lot of backstory in the previous books. The main character, Frieda, is interesting and complex. That's what you will miss. Laurel read the whole series, she might have a better idea on whether the last book can stand alone. I'm up to Thursday now. My review on the first book ... https://wp.me/p2oND-4nN
